The legalization of medical marijuana in the District of Columbia and the difficulty patients were having accessing the program were the inspiration for MMJ Advocates Group (MMJAG) and Mycannx formally DC Cannabis Cards (DCCC). I founded these companies with a vision to provide education and affordable access to medical marijuana treatment. In the beginning, access was limited to patients who were suffering from a small list of conditions including HIV/AIDS, cancer, glaucoma, and multiple sclerosis. The highly restrictive nature of the program kept enrollment into the program extremely low. With continued support from council members, physicians and patient advocates, the list of qualifying conditions was removed and control was handed to physicians and their expert medical recommendations for medical marijuana as a treatment. Mycannx has helped to enroll thousands of patients into DC’s medical marijuana program. Mycannx works closely with a network of physicians, patients, dispensaries and the Department of Health to ensure the most discreet and dignified care possible.I feel very strongly to act as an advocate for persons who are looking for alternative medicine. My advocacy is fueled by being the mother of a child with special needs and having seen family members who have benefited tremendously from the use of medical marijuana but are unable to obtain it legally in their home states. I will continue to do all I can to help those in our community and advocate nationally for the safe, legal, and affordable access to medical marijuana treatment.
